About Lapsang Souchong

Dating back to the 18th century, Lapsang Souchong tea originated from Fujian province in southeast China. Translated phonetically as "small leaves from the original mountain", legend has it that this unique black tea was created by chance when villagers were forced to flee their village during harvesting season and return to find their green tea leaves oxidized.

To save them, they used the wood of a local conifer for smoking which gave rise to what we now know as Lapsang Souchong Tea! This elaborate flavour soon reached Europe with Dutch Traders where its popularity flourished unexpectedly.
