Purple Tea is grown in the Kenyan highlands and harvested in February. This unique tea benefits from evenly-distributed rainfall and moderate temperatures that force tea bushes to flush or push out new shoots consistently each morning.

Purple tea is a relative innovation, having only been developed in the last decade or so. However, it has quickly become one of the most sought-after teas in the world, due to its unique flavour and health benefits. If you're looking for a truly exceptional cup of tea, be sure to try Purple Tea leaves from the world-famous Ragati Estate in Kenya.

What is Purple Leaf Tea
Purple tea is a type of camellia Sinensis, the plant from which all true teas are made. The leaves of purple tea plants are loaded with anthocyanins – powerful antioxidants that can provide a range of health benefits, including reduced inflammation, improved heart health and enhanced brain function.

It also has a uniquely sweet and slightly fruity flavour, making it a delicious and healthy addition to your tea repertoire.

This combination of altitude, weather and ancient soils produces a floral terroir that is truly unique. This same magical combination of factors also produces tea leaves with high levels of antioxidants.

History of Ragati Tea Estate
Ragati Tea Estate was founded in 1922 by British settlers. The estate covers 3,000 acres of lush Kenyan countryside, and its Purple Tea plants are grown at an altitude of 1,700 metres. Thanks to the estate's favourable climate and rich soils, the tea plants here thrive, producing some of the finest Purple Tea in the world.

This Tea Estate is now owned by Kenyan conglomerate Bidco, and its Purple Tea is exported all over the world. If you're lucky enough to get your hands on some of this rare and exquisite tea, be sure to savour it – you're drinking a piece of history.

How to Brew Purple Tea
Purple Tea should be brewed using water that is just off the boil, at a temperature of around 85-95 degrees Celsius.

Allow 1-2 grams or a teaspoon of tea per cup of water. Steep for 2-3 minutes, or to your desired strength.

Unlike other types of black tea, Purple Tea is best consumed without milk or sugar, so that you can fully appreciate its delicate flavour. However, if you prefer your tea with milk or sugar, feel free to add it.

It's also deliciously iced – try it with a squeeze of lemon for a refreshing summer drink.
