In 1898, Jorge de Almeida Lima acquired and managed his first beehives at Quinta do Lameiro in São Domingos de Benfica, Lisbon. In 1974, his great-great-grandchildren embarked on beekeeping by reviving the old hives.

Initially operating at Quinta do Lameiro and later, starting from 1979, in Serra da Malcata, they established their company in Penamacor.

This particular type of honey, derived from lavender, is cultivated in the interior mountains of Portugal. The bees thrive in extensive areas of wild lavender (Lavandula stoechas), surrounded by a nearly untouched flora and fauna. These regions boast minimal human activity and are free from pollution.

Spanning from Serra da Malcata in the south, along the mountain ranges that flank the Pônsul and Erges rivers, to the interior of Alentejo and the Algarve mountains, as well as the northern regions along the banks of the Côa river and the mountainous areas between the Tua and Sabor rivers (warm lands in Trás-os-Montes), Serramel produces and carefully selects this honey with a light color and gentle aromatic flavor. The production and extraction processes remain rooted in tradition.
